Tips and tricks to any successful session!

Photo sessions can be stressful, from choosing a photographer, outfits, to telling your hubby that it's that time of year again to take a new family portrait. Well, this is the end of the line! let's say no more stressful planning for a family photoshoot that is a bonding moment for the family to go out all together without the many screens we have in our lives and to enjoy each other's undivided attention for a short while.

I have collected different tips over time to help guide my clients in being best prepared for sessions that way we can all be set up for a stress-free, fun, easy-going session together that makes you forget that your even having a family photoshoot and get to focus on what matters and that is the connection and love that your family shares. Let's get into it!!

1. When first messaging your photographer, give them as much information as possible, allowing them to respond with all the answers you need at once, rather than going back and forth for hours. Tell me a little about you and the type of session you're wanting, who will be there, what is it you hope to get from our session (posed, candid, etc.) let me in a little about you and your family's likes and hobbies! I invest and care about my clients' families and the more we know about each other will benefit the session be more organic, allow everyone to be comfortable being themselves.

2. Next, being clear on what you're hoping for out of the location for your images. As your photographer, I can aid with suggesting locations you might prefer over others. Do you rather have more greens in your pictures? Want to make it extra fun for the kids and take our session to the water? I got you! This is meant to be a fun experience, that's why I want you to tell me what you're searching for, and I will make things happen for you!!

3. Now, outfits can be a tricky topic. Clients overthink it when it comes down to the clothes we wear during a session. With clothing, simplicity is key! Light colors of pink, green, blue, purple, WHITE are all gorgeous in photos. They allow the family members to be the main focus, they aren't as distracting as dark heavy clothing. PLUS, studies show how light colored clothing increases mood and confidence. Next, logos, one of the most distracting things in a photo! Please at all costs avoid any an all logo for our session. Another one of the most distracting accessories is ball caps! I know many men will hate this one, however they can draw so much attention away from the beautiful faces around you and rather than blending in, dad ends up standing out way more than everyone else.

4. What should you take to our session? If you have little ones, bring their favorite snacks, toys, or anything to keep them as happy as possible in those moments that we never see coming, we won't break them out until necessary! If your session will be in water or near water, bring a change of clothes, or towel.

5. When on your way to our session, be sure to check for any traffic beforehand because of shooting majority at golden hour. It's a small window that won't stop on our account!

Above all else, come to our session ready to have a remarkable time and forget about anything that might have gone wrong leading up to the meeting. Remember, nothing matters more that taking this time and being present at the moment with the most important people in your life.
